I’ve written 16 books, and each one has gone beyond its first printing. Some are nearing their 10th reprint. The trilogy series alone has been read by hundreds of thousands of readers. Even though Baba X: Beautiful Short Stories was released as a free PDF, many readers still express a desire to see it reprinted.
I never considered myself a great writer. In fact, I’m still a novice. After years of working primarily in English, switching to writing in Sinhala became one of the biggest challenges of my life. But I learned gradually, step by step. I never had the ambition to become a writer. What drove me to write was my love for cinema. I wrote from my imagination—that’s all I knew. The stories I couldn’t turn into films, I brought to life in words, crafting my own vision of cinema in Sinhala.
If anyone ever wanted to adapt my books into movies, it could be done quite easily. The scripts for the films are hidden within the pages of those books.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have written 16 books in just three to four years, and even more so that they’ve gained such popularity among readers. I embrace this success with gratitude.
My next book, Ho Lucy Lucy, is something different. Out of all the works I’ve written, Lucy Becomes Lucy might be your favorite. Or maybe Ho Lucy Lucy will awaken that part of me that says, “No matter how much I love, I don’t show it; I hide my love.”
